JOEL CRYDERMAN TOPS SUPERIOR SPEEDWAY LATE MODELS

By Jerry O'Brien for superiorspeedway.com

Joel Cryderman of Thunder Bay Ontario was coming off a big AMSOIL Series win Tuesday and stopped at the Superior Speedway Friday. The stop was worth it as he drove off with the win.  Starting inside the second row, Cryderman wasted little time taking the lead.  Tyler Keyser took the early lead but Cryderman was able to blow by to take a lead that he would never relinquish.  Though there were a total of four caution flags, Cryderman was able to pull away each time.  Tom Nesbitt raced from the outside of the front row to run second but fell to 7th starting Bill Byholm who finished second.  Nesbitt held on to third while Keyser and Todd  Gehl rounded out the top five. Gehl started deep in the field and move forward for a top five finish.

At the green flag pole starter Tyler Keyser took the lead over Tom Nesbitt but Joel Crydrman was on the move grabbing the point with former team mate Steve Laursen chasing him into second. With five laps in Laursen's #19 experienced problems slowing drastically bringing out the first of four caution flags.

At this point, a quarter of the way in, the order was Cryderman, Keyser, Nesbitt, Byholm and Darrell Nelson.  The restart lasted another lap before Ed Wakefield ended up into the first turn wall and out of competition.

At the mid point Cryderman led Nesbitt, Byholm, Darin Meierotto and Keyser with Nelson and Tim McMann close behind.  Quickly moving through were Todd Gehl and Brady Smith to run eighth and ninth.

Caution number three appeared when Greg Hill's # 95 stalled on the front stretch and was narrowly missed by several drivers. At the green flag Cryderman was in complete control though Byholm had moved to second and was closing on the leader.

With five laps to go the final caution flag appeared when Roger Paolo and John Henkemeyer tangled in turn four. The restart saw Cryderman pull away to the win worth $1300 while Gehl pulled into a fifth place finish.

Mike Bellefeuille, Duluth was the WISSOTA Super Stock feature winner over Scott Lawrence and Randy Thomas.  Thomas led from the outset but fell to Scott Lawrence who, in turn, fell to the streaking Bellefeuille.

Three caution flags marred the 15 lap action but at the finish it was Bellefeuille, Lawrence , Thomas, Ryan Rivord and Dale Gangl in the top five.  Gangl started the event in 14th spot.  Bob Root, Washburn, moved up to challenge leader and outside pole sitter Jason Miller for the lead. Root dived to the inside of Miller in the fourth turn and they clashed wheels. Miller turned sideways but made a great save as the pack scattered behind him.  He recovered control to run 6th and held on for a fifth place finish.  Pole sitter Scott Hudack was third while Jeff Hart came home fourth.

Tom Brust of Rice Lake, WI swept the Street Stock action in the final feature of the evening.  Keith Tourville finished second.  Front row starter Marshall Andrews ran second for several laps before mechanical gremlins sidelined him leaving brother Lou to carry  the family team which he did finishing a strong third.  Trevor Wilson and Scott Lawrence rounded out the top five.  Lawrence was driving his old car for the injured Scott Herrick.
