Darrell Nelson of Hermantown won
his second straight WISSOTA Late Model Main Event Friday night at
the Superior Speedway as he tries to defend his track championship.
Nelson quickly moved into the lead from his fourth row starting spot
an pulled away to a straight away lead in the 20 lap feature. Steve
Laursen worked his way into second past pole sitter Nick Nelson and
Tyler Keyser. Also moving forward from the fourth row was Joel
Cryderman into third. A caution flag on the white flag lap closed
Laursen and Cryderman to Nelson's back bumper when Steve Roseen and
Tom Waseleski collided in turn one sending Roseen around. At the
green flag Nelson again shot out into the lead which he held to the
checkered flag. Laursen, Cryderman, Pat Doar and Rick Hanestad
rounded out the top five.

Defending track Super Stock
champion Dale Gangl took the lead from very early leader Al Uotinen
and held off a charging Scott Lawrence for the win in the 15 lap
feature. It was a tight battle behind Gangl for several laps as John
Copp, Rick Rivord and
Lawrence
waged a good tight battle for
second. Joining them from the tenth starting spot was national
WISSOTA Point Leader Ryan Aho. Gangl held on for the win over
Lawrence, Copp, Aho and Uotinen in an event marred by three tries to
get the first lap in necessitating a single file start. The only
other caution flag in the hotly contested event flew when Tom
Treviranus spun in turn two with two circuits run.
Eric Pember shot into the lead
from the outside of the front row and held on to win the WISSOTA
Modified 15 lap feature over Craig Thatcher, Al Uotinen who made a
late race charge to third after starting 11th, Jeff Lien and Darrell
Carlson. In the early going Bill Byholm and Dann Olson ran in the
top five but both were taken out on the restart after a Jayme
Lautiger spin off turn two when Byholm seemed to slow in turn three
and Olson slid up into him. The only other caution flag in the event
occurred when Don Copp's car lost the drive shaft on the back
stretch. With six laps
to go Pember led Thatcher, Carlson, Hudack and Lien. Uotinen
completed his charge from the sixth row to finish third.
Marshall Andrews nabbed his first
career feature win at the speedway as he worked his way from the
outside of the fifth row to the lead and held it to the checkered
flag. Scott Herrick finished second ahead of defending track
champion Keith Tourville while Canadian driver Riley Mathews and
Mike
Kalkbrenner finished in the top
five.
