KEYSER BACK IN VICTORY LANE AT SUPERIOR
Late Model Driver Wins Second Feature Of Season
By Jerry O'Brien

Tyler Keyser won the Late Model feature opening night but since then has struggled to reach the form that brought him there. This time he came out on top after his stirring duel with first time visitor Mark Chamernik took a turn for the worse when the two collided exiting turn two and Chamernik's  car suffered terminal damage and was unable to continue. Keyser stole the lead from Chamernik on the fourth circuit and the clash occurred when Chamernik tried to regain the point. The redraw was kind to both Chamernik and Keyser as they took the green flag as front row mates. There were an unusual amount of caution flags in the 20 lap main event starting with the first lap as Steve Laursen and Kelly Estey tangled in the first turn with Laursen charged with the incident.

Four of the six yellow flags occurred in the first four laps and the final caution was with three laps to go for the incident between the leaders which set up a three lap dash to the checkered flag. Keyser got the jump on Trent Follmer at the green and rolled to his second feature win of the season. Not all the action was at the front for the win as a number of drivers had great runs particularly Tom Nesbitt who raced up to fourth from 15th. National point leader John Kaanta was on hand and was charged with one of the cautions. He rebounded from the back of the field nicely to finish seventh. Bill Byholm and Joel Cryderman finished third and fifth respectively as Cryderman was shaking down a brand new car.

Darrell Nelson used a good redraw that put him on the outside of the front row to nail down his second consecutive Modified feature a the speedway. After a second try was needed to get the 15 lap event under way, Nelson stole the lead away from pole sitter Clint Larson and held off a fast moving Dann Olson who quickly moved from the outside of the fourth row to the second spot. Another fast mover was Dean Yrjanainen who traveled from the sixth row to snap at the heels of Olson finishing third. Larson had a find run to finish fourth while Al Uotinen rounded out the top five.

Al Uotinen took Rick Milinkovich's Super Stock to victory circle for the second time this season besting a strong field of drivers. Uotinen quickly moved from the second row to take the lead and was challenged early on by pole sitter Jay Kuras and Kyle Peterlin but pulled away by several car lengths. Making his way forward from the tenth starting spot was Rick Rivord and with five laps remaining made his way to third. Defending track Champion Dale Gangl finished fourth while first time visitor Ed Jensen was fifth up from the sixth row.

Butch Madsen now leads the Street Stock division in feature wins as he nailed his fourth feature win in five tries. Madsen survived four caution flags to take the win after grabbing the lead from pole sitter Tom O'Brien on the second of 15 circuits. The action was slowed for a spinning car in turn two, and at the green Madsen and O'Brien went for the same piece of real estate in turn one. O'Brien bunted Madsen who did a couple of 360 degree spins with cars scattering around him. O'Brien was sent to the rear and Madsen held off Ryan Viltz and Shane Kisling for the win. Point leader Marshall Andrews survived a spin and banishment to the rear to finish fourth while Trevor Wilson finished in the top five.

The Pure Stocks were  again invited back for another try at the speedway and it was Kevin Truchon who pulled out the win with a late race charge past Andy Jarvi.  Pole sitter Dan Kingsley was third ahead of last week's winner Tim Carlson and Dave Reynolds in the top five.

Webmaster Note:  Kevin Truchon was subsequently disqualified for refusing a technical inspection after the feature race and, therefore, forfeited the win.  Andy Jarvi was declared the winner.  Also, Randy Visgar #34, of Minong, WI took one of the wildest rides we've seen at Superior this year.  Visgar entered turn 1 on the high side and broke the right rear wheel, catching the clay and rolling approximately 6 times based on the video replay viewed by me at the Village Lanes.  Visgar was taken to St. Mary's Superior Hospital where he was treated for bumps, cuts, and bruises and released.
