Races To First Career
Superior
Feature Win While Lautigar Takes Mod Event
May
26, 2006 - The second annual Superior SpringFest at the Superior
Speedway on Friday night, May 26th welcomed the first
visit by the 410 IRA Outlaw Sprint Cars on Upper Lakes Foods night
at
Wisconsin
’s fastest 3/8 mile red clay oval. The Sprinters made their first
of three appearances of the season along with regular programs for
the DTRA Modifieds, and Midwest Modifieds. Feature winners tonight
included Nick Lavato in the Midwest Modifieds, Jayme Lautigar in the
Modifieds and Donny Goeden, the fastest man to ever turn a lap at
the Superior Speedway, in the Sprint Cars.
The Midwest Modified feature kicked off with
Kackabecka Falls
,
Ontario
veteran Tom Smart jumping into the early lead with first time
visitor Jim Schweitzer in tow. Smart tried to run away from the
field and hide, but Schweitzer remained within striking distance,
bringing Nick Lavato with him into third. Lavato then proceeded to
sweep to the outside of the #25 car into second and set his sights
on Smart.
Just as Lavato was beginning to track down Smart, Tom’s #61
machine erupted into a ball of smoke, ending his run and his bid for
the feature win and handing the lead over to Lavato for the reminder
of the event. Lavato then assumed the lead on the restart and drove
off into the night, while Jeff Marshall, Willy Thompson and Loren
Inman were all battling for position just behind the leaders.
Lavato cruised to his first career Superior Speedway feature
win ahead of Schweitzer, Marshall, Thompson and Inman at the line
rounding out the top five finishers.
Last Friday night’s feature winner Duane Dale and Jayme
Lautigar lead the field of Modifieds to the green flag tonight with
Lautigar taking command early and never really looking back. Dale
settled into second, while Darrell Nelson quickly moved from 7th
to third early in the going. Lautigar was forced to survive four
caution flags, but each time on the restart, he powered his #54L to
a sizeable advantage and had the field cornered tonight on his way
to his first win of 2006.
The battle on the track was for second late in the going with
Nelson trying to track down Lautigar, Don Copp and 16th
starting Joey Jensen jumped to the high side and began to fly around
the speedway at intense speeds on their way to the front. Copp was
able to blow by Nelson on the final turn to secure second and the
line and Jensen completed his masterful charge forward with a fourth
place run, just behind Nelson at the stripe while Dale rounded out
the top five.
Donny Goeden set the Superior Speedway track record in 1999
and tonight raced to his first feature win at the facility since
setting the mark 6 years ago. Goeden stole the lead from K J Skelton
midway through the 30-lap event and proceeded to check out on the
field from that point on. With Goeden out front, the battle on the
track was for second and featured a great battle between Scott
Neitzel and Travis Whitney. Whitney would get great runs off the
turns, but Neitzel was up to the challenge on the straights, holding
off Whitney’s advances each lap.
Goeden ran uncontested the remainder of the event with
Neitzel hanging on for second ahead of Whitney, Uttech and Meyer at
the line. The Sprint Car feature featured only 2 caution flags on
the ultra-smooth 3/8 mile red clay oval, providing for some great
racing action all night long.
Both Jayme Lautigar and Nick Lavato have the opportunity to
capitalize on the Como Oil & Propane bonus program if each of
them can with their respective features on Monday, July 24th
and Tuesday, August 22nd they will take home some
considerable extra cash for their efforts.
This coming Friday, June 2nd will feature a
complete program of DTRA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Street Stocks and
Midwest Modifieds along with our Twin 25 Lap DTRA Late Model
features, where a driver has a chance to walk away with $5,000
presented by Domino’s Pizza. For more information regarding the
