Casey
Adds Russ Laursen Classic Title To Tremendous Season
Aho
Claims Third Superior
Speedway
Feature Win Of ‘06
The annual Russ
Laursen Classic Memorial Late Model race was held on its normal
Monday with rain clouds looming off to the west, but a great field
of cars in attendance none-the-less. Terry Casey won a non-stop
40-lap event in dominating fashion en route to picking up a $2,000
paycheck. Ryan Aho raced to his third DTRA Super Stock feature win
of the season tonight, while Wayne Engen claimed his first ever
Midwest Modified feature victory and Glenn Dammer charged from 20th
to win the Superior Pure Stock finale.
Wayne Engen raced from the 5th row to win his
first ever Superior Speedway Midwest Modified feature win as a
support division to the Late Models for the Russ Laursen Classic
Memorial event. Engen stole the lead from Jeff Pohjonen on lap 6 and
raced uncontested for the rest of the 15-lapper to pick up the win.
Willy Thompson took over second after a Pohjonen spin and held off
DJ Severin at the line for the runner-up spot.
Ryan Aho used his pole starting position to his advantage and
bolted off into the lead at the start of the Super Stock feature,
but outside front row starter Randy Silverness was not about to let
Aho drive off into the night. Silverness ran side by side with Aho
for the top spot for the first 9 laps of the feature, putting on a
thrilling show for the fans in attendance. Curt Myers and Joe Olson
ran a great race for third just behind the leaders as well, while
the laps wound down. Aho took the lead for good on lap 16 and raced
to the $750 payday with Myers stealing second on the last lap and
beating Silverness to the line.
Terry Casey picked up his first career Superior Speedway
feature win a few weeks ago and backed it up in convincing fashion
tonight with a dominating wire-to-wire 40-lap feature win paying
$2,000 for the annual Russ Laursen Classic Memorial event. Casey
started on the pole and took the lead from Eric Breeschoten early on
and never looked back. Casey lapped up to the 8th place
car in the non-stop event with Jeff Provinzino sliding up into
second on lap 14 and attempting to chase down Casey out front. Casey
continued to set a blistering pace and raced away from the field for
the win. Provinzino came home a solid second with Brent Larson
edging John Kaanta and Breeschoten at the line for third.
The Pure Stock feature was a very entertaining event with Tom
Morinville, Rick Kesty and Tristan LaBarge battling three-wide for
the lead on several occasions, while Glenn Dammer was rapidly
charging through the field after starting on the outside of the 10th
row. Kesty took over the lead on lap 6 after starting 13th,
but Dammer raced to the outside of Kesty for the lead and the win on
the last lap, completing a very impressive 20th to 1st
run for the feature win over Kesty and Morinville.
Superior Speedway kicks back into action on Friday, June 30th
with the first ever visit by the ASCS Sprint Cars presented by
