Claim Superior Hall of Fame Event
Hanestad
Hammers Home Street Stock Feature Victory
The annual Hall
of Fame race night saw a lightning fast 3/8 mile race track, which
produced some of the best racing of the season and saw Pat Doar top
the DTRA Late Models for his third Superior Speedway feature win of
the season. Joey Jensen edged Darrell Nelson in a photo finish to
win his second DTRA Modified event at the track, while Ryan Aho
raced to his 7th Super Stock victory at the track. Ron
Hanestad raced to his first feature win at the track this season in
the Street Stock division and Rick Kesty became the first repeat
Pure Stock feature winner of the season in Superior.
First time visitor Ron Hanestad jumped from the pole to the
lead of the Street Stock feature and never looked back in the
15-lapper. Hanestad had to contend with 7 time feature winner Butch
Madsen over the last few circuits of the event, but Hanestad was up
to the challenge and raced to the DTRA win ahead of Madsen, Mike
Kalkbrenner, Scott Herrick and Mark Froelich at the line.
Ryan Aho redrew the pole and withstood a few caution periods
to race to his 7th win at the speedway this season. Aho
ran away from a great battle for second between J B Stortz and Ryan
Rivord early on and then withstood a charge from 7th
starting Mike Bellefeuille to pick up the win. Bellefeuille raced to
his second second-place finish of the week ahead of Rivord, Mike
Loomis and Scott Lawrence in the top five.
Joey Jensen took off from the pole and stretched his
advantage in the Modified main event early on, but a lap 11 caution
flag bunched up the field, and set up a thrilling second half of the
event. Darrell Nelson and Kelly Estey moved into a great battle for
second, while Jensen contined to lead. Once Nelson cleared Estey, he
pulled alongside Jensen for the lead and the duo circled the high
banks side by side for the final 7 laps, thrilling the fans with
each lap. Jensen got the run he needed off turn four on the final
lap and edged Nelson for the win in an awesome photo finish. Estey,
Jason Miller and Don Copp raced to the top five.
Pat Doar and Terry Casey sat on the front row of the DTRA
Late Model main event and the duo, along with Eric Breeschoten raced
three-wide for the lead on the opening lap. Doar took off into the
lead, but Breeschoten and Casey followed closely behind. Once again
the lead trio ran three-wide out of turn four for the lead on lap 7
and continued their fierce battle for the top spot until lap 12,
when Doar assumed command and drove off into the night. Breeschoten
gave Doar all he could handle on the restart after a lap 20 caution,
but Doar then drove off for his third win of the season at the
track. Breeschoten held off Darrell Nelson, Brent Larson and Todd
Gehl for second.
Andrew Jarvi took off into the lead at the start of the Pure
Stock feature with Rick Kesty and Glenn Dammer battling for second
on lap 2. Kesty slid to the inside of Jarvi after a lap three red
flag for Dan Doran getting upside down. Once out front Kesty took
off and raced to his second feature win of the season in Superior.
Dammer ran second ahead of Al Rapp, Dan Larsen and 23rd
starting Steve Christman after a great charge through traffic.
