Brent Larson was much happier thank
you very much after his win in the 25 lap Late Model
feature. Missed communications after his qualifying heat
nearly got him disqualified but everything was corrected
and he was restored to his third starting spot. Larson
wasted little time in blasting past front row starters
Todd Gehl and Mike Nutzmann to take the lead while Joel
Cryderman moved quickly forward from the fourth row
battling with Caley Emerson for the number two spot
which he was able to take over. The event progressed
quickly with no caution flags to slow the action.
Several drivers were on the move forward including
defending track champion Pat Doar from 12th and Eric
Breeschoten from 9th. By the half way Mark Larson
had a huge lead and was beginning to lap the field while
Cryderman was back in second with Doar up to third,
Emerson fourth and Breeschoten in fifth. Larson was able
to avoid trouble with lapped cars and went on to take
the win over Cryderman, Doar, Breeschoten and Emerson.
Unlike the Late Model main event, the
Super Stock feature, for the second consecutive week
came down with a case of yellow fever four caution flags
including a lengthy clean up on the first stoppage
caused officials to begin to cut laps for the second
week as the event neared it's time limit. Perhaps seven
of 20 scheduled laps were run before the checkered flag
flew. Dale Gangl led the early laps before defending
track champion Ryan Aho got going and took the lead
which he was able to retain to the end. Gangl hung on
for second ahead of Mike Bellefeuille, Joe Oliver and
Scott Lawrence in the top five.
Joey Jensen won the 20 lap Modified
feature after defending track champion Darrell Nelson
made a rare mistake. While leading by a wide margin
Nelson spun in turn two on lap eight bringing out the
caution flag and turning over the lead to Jensen who had
taken second from Erik Bjorkland. Nelson restarted in
the rear of the 18 car field and was able to work is way
back to 10th by the checkered flag. That would be the
only caution flag of the event as Jensen snared the easy
win over Bjorkland. Putting on charges to the front were
Bill Byholm from ninth to third and, in a great run, Jad
Carlson from 11th to fifth . Finishing fourth was Don
Copp who ran in the top five the entire race.
Greg Chesley won his first Midwest
Modified feature of the season at the speedway holding
off defending champion Nick Lavato in the 15 lap main
event. The race got off to a bad start with a five car
pileup in the first turn at the start. One lap after the
restart it did not get better as a Willie Thompson's
single car spin again stopped the action. Chesley took
the lead from the pole with Joe Olson second, Lavato
third, Skeeter Estey fourth and Nick Baker fifth.
Chesley widened his lead while Lavato got by Olson and
set out in pursuit of the leader. The second and final
caution appeared with Adam Archer tagged with the
incident. At the green Chesley and Lavato pulled away
from the pack as there was a scramble for third between
Olson, Jesse Ogston, Estey, Randy Vezina and Cory
Jorgenson. Chesley took the win over Lavato, Olson,
Vezina and Ogston.
Dan Kingsley won his first ever
Street Stock feature at the speedway as he bested a
small field of cars. The first half of the race was
uneventful as Kingsley raced away from last weeks winner
Shane Kisling. At the mid point Kisling had caught
Kingsley and tried to take the lead but to no avail.
After losing some ground at the start, Tim Baum worked
his way forward and nipped by Kisling for second as it
tightened up for the lead. Kingsley was holding off Baum
with Kisling and Scott Herrick in close pursuit. Baum
tried for the win but Kingsley held him off to take the
win. Herrick got by Kisling for third and Bobby LePage
finished fifth.
Glen Dammer is on a roll in the Pure
Stock division early in the ‘07 season as he won his
fourth feature of the season in four tries, two of them
coming at the Superior Speedway. Dammer is undefeated at
the speedway thus far with two sweeps. Dammer won a
great battle with pole sitter Al Rapp as the two
exchanged the lead several times in the closing laps
after the final of two caution flags before Dammer
pulled off the win. Rapp was second ahead of Jeff
Christman, Jeff Tormondson and Tony Ciurleo in the top
five.
