Superior Speedway Looking Super In 2008

Prepared by Chris Stepan ~ FYE Motorsports Promotions (May 7th 2008)

The Superior Speedway in Superior, Wisconsin is mere days away from kicking off the 2008 racing season at the Head of the Lakes Fairgrounds near Lake Superior. With the start of the ’08 racing season just around the corner, the Superior Speedway management team has recently announced what promises to be one of the most exciting schedules in recent memory.

The 3/8 mile red clay oval will kick off the season with an open practice on Thursday, May 15th from 6pm to 10pm for anyone interested in shaking their car down and working out the bugs. The regular season will then get underway the following night on Friday, May 16th with non-stop action for WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and Superior Pure Stocks. Racing begins at 7:00pm sharp each race night.

A whole host of special events dot the 2008 schedule including 2 visits by the Amsoil Super Series for Late Models, which each will pay $2000 to win; 2 stops by the Dart Challenge Series for WISSOTA Late Models, which pay $2000 and $3000 to win respectively; 2 Como Modified Series events, which each pay $1,000 to win; 2 World Dirt Racing League Late Model specials, which pay $5,000 to win each; the annual $1,500 to win Russ Laursen Late Model Classic; the annual $1,000 to win JW Zembo Super Stock Classic and of course the year ending Budweiser Northern Nationals. Superior continues to be the place to be on Friday nights throughout the summer and continues to offer huge money to the competitors who call Superior Speedway home, boasting the largest nightly payoff of any WISSOTA or NASCAR sanctioned track in the Midwest.

New in 2008, Superior Speedway is excited to announce the addition of two new bonus programs for the competitors of Wisconsin’s fastest 3/8 mile red clay oval. The first will be known as the Arnie Ranta Motorsports Superior Sweep Bonus. This bonus will be awarded to any driver who wins his or her heat race and then goes on to win the feature in that same division on any race night, starting with the second night of racing at the track. This bonus will be in effect for all 6 divisions and will pay $500 to sweep the Late Models, $300 to sweep the Modifieds, $250 to sweep the Super Stocks, $200 to sweep the Midwest Modifieds, $150 to sweep the Street Stocks and an additional $100 to sweep the Pure Stocks.  Basically what this means is that if a driver wins his or her heat race and goes on to win the feature that night, he or she will be walking away with some extra cash courtesy of Arnie Ranta Motorsports.

The second bonus program offered will be the Arnie Ranta Motorsports Last to First Bonus. This program will offer the driver who is scheduled to start on the pole position in each of the six divisions the chance to start dead last in the feature, and if he or she comes from last to win the feature event, that driver will walk away with another great bonus. The bonus amounts are exactly the same as the Superior Sweep bonus, which means if a driver happens to sweep the night, but does so from dead last, he or she will double their bonus! The only stipulation to this bonus is that there must be eighteen cars minimum scheduled to start the a-main for a driver to accept the challenge to start from the back.

For example, if a Late Model driver were to win his heat race, accept the challenge to start at the tail and win the feature, he would walk out of Superior Speedway with an amazing $2,000 paycheck. Modified racers would take home $1,300; Super Stock racers could potentially win $1,000, where the Midwest Modified drivers could tally up $650; the Street Stock racers could leave town with $500 and the Pure Stock racers could collect $350 for winning both bonuses on any given race night. Arnie Ranta Motorsports is proudly putting up both bonuses and says “We want to give back to our drivers and spread the money around as much as possible. These bonuses are not only good for the driver, but great treats for the crowd as well.”

Along with the great purse that Superior offers already, and these 2 additional bonus programs, Superior is part of a 4 track collaboration to offer drivers an additional incentive if they choose to compete at the other Northland area tracks. Drivers participating in WISSOTA sanctioned classes at ABC Raceway, Hibbing Raceway, Proctor Speedway, and Superior Speedway will be competing weekly for the Triple Play Bonus.

Any driver who is able to win three consecutive features in the same weekend will earn a $400 bonus courtesy of the participating tracks.  Features must be won in the same calendar weekend and in the same racing class.

Superior Speedway Management is excited to finally get the ’08 racing season underway. We look forward to seeing everyone at the track on the 15th/16th. For more information regarding the Superior Speedway, feel free to check out www.superiorracetrack.com or call (715) 394-RACE.
